There’s always a lot of talk about nutrition and vitamins.  However, there are some nutrients and vitamins that the human body cannot live without.  Here is a quick list of what your body finds essential to survive:

Fat Soluble Vitamins: These are absorbed through fat

  • Vitamin A: Vision; as well as bone growth.   Carrots, eggs, and watermelon are known for having good amounts of Vitamin A.
  • Vitamin D: This one is essential for bone growth to ensure that calcium is absorbed by your bones.  10 minutes of sunlight per day means that you will get a solid dose.  It’s also found in salmon and milk.
  • Vitamin E: Vitamin E is crucial for the immune system; our bodies use it to fix damage to DNA and other health defects.  It’s present in many leafy vegetables and kiwi/broccoli
  • Vitamin K: This vitamin aids in blood clotting.  This is another vitamin which can be found in green vegetables such as broccoli.  This vitamin is very important for your body to function.

Other Essential Nutrients:

  • Protein: Protein is crucial for producing the body’s cells.  It’s what the body uses to turn DNA into the things that your body needs
  • Fat: The ideal type of fat for the body is monounsaturated fat.  Unsaturated fat is found in olive oils and other vegetable oils
  • Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are used by the body to produce energy, and are best found in whole grain breads.
  • Minerals: These metal ions make the things that your body needs to function properly.  Good sources include nuts, fish, and green vegetables.
  • Water: Water moves nutrients throughout the body, and removes toxins.  The best source is the water in your tap!
